This album engineered by Jane's
Addiction, Mick Jagger producer Dave Jerdan with musical performances by John
Goodsall (Brand X), Phil Kenzie (Eagles,Rod Stewart), Ric Parnell (Spinal Tap!), Blondie Chaplin (The Beach Boys,
The Flames), Paul Delph, Kurtiss Teel (Etta James), David Kaff (Rare Bird,
Spinal Tap), Doug Lunn and many other music luminaries, was recorded in 1980 at
Eldorado Studios in LA. The bizarre Brecht-Weilian tone of "The Circus" with
images of the big top portrayed in sound, the ringmaster megaphoning his welcome
to the circus of life, was described by Jerdan to be the best track since the
Beatles "(For the benefit of) Mr. Kite". "New from the Past" a futuristic vocoder pop song about
change affecting the stability of Love relationships. "A Winner?" sets an eerie
atmosphere at the beachfront during the two minute warning of nuclear holocaust,
in a style reminiscent of Pink Floyd, engineered by Island Records' Richard
Digby-Smith. |
